First Things First is the proper order and arrangement of things. Putting first things first, also known as the principle of first fruits, is being a good steward. It is evidence and testimony that you are recognizing your position as the steward and God as the owner. You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability producing wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. Deuteronomy 8:17-18.
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus instructs us to “seek first” God’s Kingdom – and everything in our lives will fall into proper alignment. In the beginning of the year, regardless of where you are, as you “seek God first,” you have a “promise to come” from the Lord – a promise that includes a release of His presence and provision. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
The promise of God’s presence and provision is established in your life through the principle of First Fruits. It is the giving over or the returning to God the FIRST born sons – Exodus 22:29, firstborn the animals – Exodus 13:2, choice first fruits of land -Exodus 23:19, Leviticus 19:23, the wool of sheep – Deuteronomy 15:9, the first tenth of a crop – Deuteronomy 14:22, Leviticus 27:30, even when you baked bread, the first goes to the priest – Numbers 15:20. Your time, God says to observe the first of every month – Exodus 12:2, the first days of the festivals are dedicated to God -Exodus 12:16, Leviticus 23:35.
The first fruits offering establishes is the law of “first things first” in your life. First fruits, which belong to God, govern the rest and set the pattern — and position the believer to receive the promises of God. To implement the principle of First Fruits, you must KEEP FIRST THINGS FIRST, by being a good steward in these areas: time priorities and resources…
Praying. Give God your first thoughts in the morning. Talk with him before you do anything else EVERY day. Pray without ceasing for your family, for God’s perfect will, for the indwelling and guidance of the Holy Spirit for all your needs. God will honor your faithfulness.
Planning. As you look ahead in your new year, what are your goals? Seek God’s clear direction for your life, then write it down. Keep it in front of you on a daily basis. Let it get into your spirit. See it! Believe it! Live it!
Making an offering. Give your First Fruits offering in obedience to God’s command, and see the activation of His promises. Your sacrificial offering will be a seed for blessings the remainder of the year. According to Ezekiel 44, when you present your First Fruits offering, it will cause a blessing to rest upon your house.
